On May 28th, we welcomed back the Woodland High School Biology students to gather data on the growth and health of the trees in our first Chestnut Grove at MLLT. The students were very lucky to have Bill Livingston, from the University of Maine Forest Resources, join and provide valuable information on how to evaluate the health of the Chestnut trees.
Bill Livingston educates students on crown height as a measure of tree health.
MLLT extends thanks to the students, Debbie Jamieson, the bus driver and our dedicated volunteers for a successful morning of collecting data on our chestnut trees. Students will take these data and compare measurements to those taken in fall 2025.
Below are favorite moments from an educational morning spent measuring trees. To learn more about the American Chestnut Restoration Project, visit the American Chestnut Foundation at The American Chestnut Foundation | Rooted in Restoration.
Check back soon to learn how the 2025 trees have grown!
Thank you Woodland Biology Students!!
