Meddybemps Land Trust is on the verge of an exciting new chapter. We are working to purchase a critical piece of land that will connect two existing parcels, creating a larger, continuous area for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. This expansion will open up new opportunities for a trail network and provide access to local features like Hall's Quarry and highlights hiking trails by our Chestnut Groves. The Calais Advertiser
On July 23, 2026, The Calais Advertiser highlighted our three public trails at MLLT! This summer, the Land Management Team has diligently cleared these trails for everyone to enjoy. The Butler Point Trail now extends to Butler North beach, and the Ryan Lake Trail has been renamed Sunset Cove Trail. Riparian Forest Buffers are natural or restored woodlands located alongside streams, lakes, and wetlands. The forests of MLLT serve as a riparian buffer for our lake. Let's work together to create buffers and keep Meddybemps Lake healthy! Woodland High School Biology Students Return to MLLT to Collect Growth and Health Data on the 2025 Chestnut Trees
On May 28th, we welcomed back the Woodland High School Biology students to gather data on the growth and health of the trees in our first Chestnut Grove at MLLT. The students were very lucky to have Bill Livingston, from the University of Maine Forest Resources, join and provide valuable information on how to evaluate the health of the Chestnut trees. Celebrating our Second Year of American Chestnut Tree Planting with Woodland Elementary Students
On May 22nd, we welcomed back the Woodland Elementary students, grades 2, 3, and 5th for a second year of American Chestnut Tree planting at MLLT. Our forester, Brittany Mauricette and Eva Butler, from the Maine Chapter of The American Chestnut Foundation (ME-TACF), shared many interesting facts about the history and fate of the American Chestnut Tree and how to plant them for the best restoration efforts. It's Winter at MLLT but Spring is coming!
Feb 17, 2026- Sunset Cove Trail and the Chestnut Grove are blanketed in snow! Spring is only 31 days away, and you can see the buds on the Chestnut Trees in the photos below from 2/16/26. Be on the lookout for our spring and summer events, including the new picnic table arriving at Murray Point Beach this year!
